Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
If an abnormality is found on a mammogram, and additional mammographic views or ultrasound do not provide a specific diagnosis, a biopsy of the breast may be recommended. Most abnormalities in the breast prove to be benign (not cancer). Such abnormalities fall into one of three categories:
A group or cluster of calcium deposits or calcifications |
A nodule with or without calcifications |
A region which is more dense than the rest of your breast tissue or which is changing compared to previous mammograms |
