In order to perform this examination satisfactorily, we ask that you follow the preparation instructions below that match your needs:

Upper GI Series
Day prior to the examination:
Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.

Day of the examination:
Do not eat or drink anything until after your examination has been completed.

Small Bowel Series
Day prior to the examination:
Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.

Day of the examination:
Do not eat or drink anything until after your examination has been completed. The time involved in this examination depends upon the function of the GI system.

Barium Enema
Obtain a Fleet Barium Enema Prep Kit #1 two days prior to your appointment. A full 24 hours is required to complete this preparation. Follow the instructions contained in the kit for the "24-hour prep." These kits are available at most local pharmacies.
